It was the summer 1994, I had recently acquired a Minolta SLR Camera with several lenses and I was anxious to give it a workout. I had a Saab 900 turbo that cried for a workout too.
The project for most of that summer was to drive my Saab deep into the country roads of York county on my days off work in search of barns to photograph.
I would select an area and then study my York county map and off I would go. Generally the sun roof was open. Often I packed a lunch and had the countryside as my restaurant ambience. I would visually search for barns as I drove; and of course, frequently had to go back to enter the property. I tried to speak to the owners as much as possible in order to get permission to photograph but also to try to get some history and information about the barn. I was invited in for a mid morning snack one time and in general people were very proud of their barns and happy to have them photographed. Some of these barns are no longer there or have changed ownership.
