Judy learned calligraphy in the early 1980s at the local YWCA. Later, she took private lessons from calligraphers in the Washington, DC area. Still, Judy is primarily a self-taught calligrapher. Many hours have been spent just practicing the alphabet & lettering. She also makes her own colored calligraphy ink. In 1997, Judy added pressed flowers to her calligraphy. As a graduate of Temple University School of Pharmacy Judy's botany background has helped her with the identification of the flora used in her artwork. Judy personally grows and presses the garden flowers used in the original QuilliGraphy artwork used to make the prints and notecards. She is a part-time practicing community pharmacist involved in the long term care aspect of that profession. She is a juried member of the York Town Chapter of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and an active participant in the activities of the organization. She has participated in numerous art and craft festivals in New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Currently, there are nine QuilliGraphy product lines with a total of 95 designs. The names of the garden flowers used are written on the back of the limited edition framed work and it is signed by Judy. |
